Player Spotlight: Isaiah Thompson
Isaiah Thompson emerges as one of the most promising under the radar 2027 prospects in Oklahoma. He’s coming off a fantastic summer where he played up with all 2026 talent, even starting countless games and leading in several different stats. Taking a different leap, Thompson transferred from Enid High School to OKC Storm to finish his high school years. The Storm have a rigorous winter schedule every season but this will be a perfect fit for Thompson as he thrives in competitive environments.
This past summer I got to watch first-hand what this guy does to opponents. He’s silent but deadly. He will start off the game hot whether it be scoring, dishing out assists, poking the ball free, forcing turnovers, or swatting any shot in his path. Thompson ran with Oklahoma Wolfpack 2026 Barnes, a team that was always action-packed and super fun to watch. Isaiah served many roles for this squad as he would take the ball down the court, sit in the corner for the open three, flash down low for easy bumps, or even catch some filthy alley-oops from his guys.
The last two seasons, Thompson was enrolled at Enid High School and was on the team there but has now recently transitioned to a bigger role for the OKC Storm. The Storm have a very vast schedule and will travel to several different states such as Texas, Kansas, and Missouri to play the top talent in the area. The team has brought in a handful of other transfers and Isaiah will play a huge role in the path to success for this group. I asked him what his thoughts are on the upcoming season and he stated “We have a bright road ahead of us, and if we play together, I believe we can be really good this season.”
Isaiah brings a beneficial style of game to the floor. He’s a slim 6’4 build who can stretch and facilitate several different positions with ease. His long wingspan and quick feet propel him into being a flashy guard who can finish at all levels. The ability of his to control the rock, penetrate the defense, and create generous scoring opportunities for him or his teammates is very proficient. He takes pride in being the playmaker of his team as well as the anchor on defense. His lengthy frame generates numerous easy picks from his opponents at any time he desires. You have to watch out for his slyness as he will catch you being lazy and jump forward for sneaky steals even on inbound passes under the goal. Grabbing boards is something that Isaiah ensures to do and he is not afraid to put his nose in the fight for one.
Some of my favorite parts to watch of Thompson’s offensive game is his crafty lays and eye-catching slams at the rim. Make sure the camera is ready if you see him on the fast break push because he will hammer it home with a big time dunk. His hand-eye coordination is top tier as well as he excels at timing when to soar through the air to catch and slam the rock down from an alley oop. His layup and mid-range scoring packages are well-orchestrated every time he’s there. The slim guard does not fear a bigger or taller defender in the paint and has no problem obsorbing contact for tough finishes.
Thompson has his eyes on the prize in the present and in the future. He told me that next summer is taking another step and joining a new circuit with a new team. He’s not afraid of change or any challenge.
Keep an eye on this 2027!
