United They Stand: Unity 16u Girls Start Strong on Day 1

This Wichita Girls event may have only a handful of teams in attendance, but they've brought the action on Day 1. To kick thing off, the Unity 16u squad faced off against a deep CMA (Coach Moe's Allstars) team. As soon as they hit the floor, the Unity girls team was ready to compete. They went right to work with several buckets to start, earning a 15-0 lead. They do everything asked of them and more. Shooting the ball from all spots and distances is something they do very well. Their defense is intense and very pressuring, causing several turnovers. Reading the passing lanes and analyzing for quick steals is also a key trait from this 16u squad. Here's the kicker though. Only one player is a true 2028 graduate. The rest are actually 2029. You would not be able to tell though as they all are electric and very skilled.

The Unity team is led by '29 Ria Papahronis, a tall guard out of Edmond, OK who brings crafty moves and excellent shooting to the floor. She had several tough finishes in the paint thanks to her ability to keep the ball above her head and finish through contact. Her height plays a big role in her being able to snatch rebounds and intercept passes. I talked to her coach Rob Seat and he spoke very highly of the freshman standout. She will have a big high school career with performances like she had today.

This Unity squadron is also propelled by '29 Annie Seat and '29 Khloe Peeler. Annie is a smaller guard but does not let that hinder her ability to have some of the best defense on the team. She had several blocks and steals today. She also drove through defenders and finished off the glass for some easy buckets. Khloe is a taller guard who also brings good strength when attacking and defending. She does a great job of staying down on her feet waiting patiently for the time to strike. She had a massive swat today that had the ball flying across the baseline. Unity ended up winning 45-22, moving 1-0 to start the weekend.
